QUALITY Droughtmaster females sold to $5500 twice at the annual Cream of the Crop sale, Coolabunia Sales Complex on Saturday.
Bunya sales group chairman Graham Brown said the Society-endorsed sale was a resounding success on the back of a strong cattle market and improved local season conditions.
Selling agents Aussie Land and Livestock and GDL sold 47 females for a $2702 average with a $5500 top twice recording a total clearance. Post sale analysis revealed nine cows and calves averaged $3278, 13 joined heifers averaged $2827 and 25 unjoined maidens averaged $2430.
First to attract the $5500 top money was the 12-month-old, unjoined heifer, Bryvonlea Halla (P) offered by Brian and Yvonne Heck, Bryvonlea Droughtmasters, Glastonbury.
The honey coloured home-bred maiden was the youngest in the catalogue and was bought by interstate buyers Bob and Liz Nicholls, Ena Farming Company, Yetman, New South Wales.
The Nicholls family ended up with seven females for a $3821 average which also included the $4500 top money cow and unit, Scrubby Mt Heather (P) with bull calf at foot and back in-calf.
The three-in-one package was offered by Allan and Nadia Gillies, Scrubby Mt Droughtmasters, Gin Gin.
A half-a-dozen unjoined Bryvonlea heifers offered by the Heck family averaged $2875.
A feature of the sale was Fred and Charmaine Litchfield’s Red Acres ‘Heart of the Herd’ female reduction which included the other $5500 equal top seller, Red Acres Fawn (P), a 26-month-old daughter of Red Acres Earl (P) which was PTIC to Red Acres Impulse. She was bought by Jason, Jo and Maddy Carter, Jemcar Droughtmasters, Widgee who were looking for ‘length and size’ when they made their successful bid.
The Carters are looking to increase breeder numbers through selected quality acquisitions like Red Acres Fawn. The 11 mixed age Red Acres females averaged $2909.
Also on the lookout for quality breeders were John and Judy Mewing, Invalaw Pty Ltd, Glenhowden Harlin and their managers, Luke and Tash McEwan, who bought nine females for a $2472 average and Ruyi Pastoral Pty Ltd of Mooloolaba accounted for 14 females for a $2071 average.
