LAST Friday’s Wilangi Invitation Sale at Charters Towers reflected the northern beef industry’s confidence in the Brahman breed, when the entire lineup of 187 grey Brahman bulls sold at an average of $5565, up 61 per cent from last year, to buyers across northern and central Queensland and the Northern Territory.
Brian and Cindy Hughes, Lanes Creek Brahman Stud offered sale topper Willtony Tallyho, a polled son of Avee Jackson which, at 25 months old, returned measurements of 12mm fat at the rump and 8mm at the rib, 4pc IMF and 127sq cm in EMA.
The 650kg milk tooth bull was purchased for $31,000 by John and Sue Joyce, Tropical Cattle, The Orient, Ingham.
Mr Joyce is no stranger to the bloodlines and, after taking home the $36,000 Willtony Sherwood from Rockhampton Brahman Week Sale in October, came to the Wilangi Sale in search of more of the same.
In addition to the top priced bull, Mr Joyce secured the Hughes family’s Willtony Tradesman, a younger full brother to the $70,000 Rockhampton Brahman Week Sale topper.
The 756kg milk-tooth poll scored 17mm and 11mm in rump and rib fat, 4.1pc IMF, 41cm scrotal circumference and 133sq.cm in the EMA. The bull sold for $14,000.
Scott, Geoff and Gladys Angel, Glengarry Brahman Stud sold the two-year-old Glengarry Gillette, son of Glengarry D Max, to Tony and Kate Mortimer, Token Brahmans and Horses, Eidsvold for $22,000.
The 720kg poll with an exceptional temperament measured a 40cm scrotal circumference, 9mm and 7mm P8 and rib fat, 3.6pc IMF and 121sq cm EMA.
The Angel family then invested in more quality genetics for their herd in the form of Viva Buddy, offered by AJ and Pam Davison, Viva Brahmans, Middlemount.
Another bull of remarkable temperament, the 836kg son of Brahrock Intercept measured 136sq cm in the EMA, 15mm and 8mm in P8 and rib fat and 4.6pc IMF.
The bull was knocked down to the Angel family for $20,000.
Volume buyers on the day were Andrew and Gillian Macnicol, Macnicol Pastoral Holdings, Birralee, Collinsville, who purchased 18 bulls at an average of $5790.
Mick Sheahan, Sheahan Land and Cattle, Esmeralda Station, Croydon took home 17 bulls for an average of $4325.
Meanwhile, Trevor Crisp, Crisp Pastoral, Oak Hill, Mt Fox bought 11 for a $3730 average.
Dan Condon, Strathmore Station, Collinsville ended the day with 10 bulls averaging $4200.
