THE inaugural Tropical Invitational Senepol Sale held in Emerald last week was deemed a success, with 41 bulls selling for an average $3934.
Five vendors - Namoona Trig Senepols, Wiangaree Park Senepols, Gouron Creek Senepols, Silverleigh Senepols and Planchonella Hill Senepols participated in the sale.
The Maynard Family, 5 Star Senepols, Mt Eugene, paid the top price of $9500 for 738kg Wiangaree Park J102 (EMA 131).
The purchase – one of four for the central Queensland seedstock producers – was the highlight of the sale.
“I am always hesitant to buy bulls or genetics from tick free zones, as we have been burnt before but I decided to get some linkage from southern herds to see if they can handle northern conditions,” said Geoff Maynard, 5 Star Senepols.

Wiangaree Park J102 is the son of American sire, Prime Rate Ranch 2110L, out of an AA Company female.
The Maynard family paid an average $5500 for three other bulls.
Doug Burnett, Burnett Enterprises, Claremont, secured five bulls for an average $6000, including $8000 for 826kg Wiangaree Park J101 (EMA 134), sired by Antigua Dagana and an AA Company female.
Mr Burnett also paid $7500 for 730kg Wiangaree Park Argyle (EMA 128) and $7500 for 770kg Namoona Alexander 3 (EMA 125).
Tambo cattle producers, Mt Playfair Cattle Company, bought six bulls for an average of $3583.
The Holmes family, Bowen and JC Creed, Raglan, and Avago Station, Katherine, each secured four bulls.
Roger Lyne from selling agents Ray White Rural, Dalby, said vendors were pleased with the prices, given the drought conditions.
“With the bulls being bred in northern NSW, the vendors transported the bulls to Emerald for the opportunity for buyers to purchase the bulls closer to home in central Queensland,” Mr Lyne said.
“The total draft of bulls were presented in very good condition and temperament to suit buyers for their cross breeding, preference for buyers was the younger bulls out of the catalogue.”
