IT'S battled both war and drought but, thanks to dedicated committees over the years, the community of Miles celebrated its 100th Show on Tuesday.
The milestone was marked in style, introducing a rodeo for the first time, as well as the unveiling of a new building that was completed just last week.
Supreme champion female of the show, Billa Park Poll Finch and her calf Billa Park Kaitlyn, exhibited by Scott and Claire York, Billa Park Simmentals, Dulacca, and was congratulated by stud judge Adam Mayes, Chilgerie Hill Santas, Wandoan. Click image to view gallery.
Vice-president Shirley Walsh was standing amid friends at the official opening when show president Richard Steel announced the new building would be called the Walsh Family Pavilion.
"I thought I could've killed him. They reckon my face was priceless," Ms Walsh laughed.
"A couple of years ago they made me life member and I could've killed them then too," she added.
Ms Walsh has clocked up a tremendous 30 years with the committee, after moving to the community in 1985, and is currently chief steward of the pavilion section.
This year the Walsh Family Pavilion housed school entries, but plans are in place to install a commercial kitchen and move the secretary's office into the building once funding permits.
Ms Walsh said the committee was also fundraising to replace a poultry shed that burnt down in 1986, and to introduce a new cattle shed.
With so much activity and future planning, it's apparent why the Miles Show has remained a firm part of the community for more than a century.
"We just try to better it each year and improve it for the younger generation as well," Ms Walsh said.
"It's really about bringing it back year after year for the community, so they can see what goes on in the region and have a family fun day."
