NEVILLE and Melita Turrell lost half a 16-hectare crop of young corn to flooding when the Gowrie Creek broke its banks early this week on one of the three farms they lease near Oakey on the Darling Downs.
The flooding also damaged some fences and wiped out portions of the stands of lucerne and millet they have growing on the farms.
But the rest of the crops were unaffected and will benefit from the rain after battling through heatwave and dry conditions the previous weeks.
"It's a shame to lose some of it, but that's the way it goes," Mr Turrell said.
"The rest will be fine.
"We definitely needed the rain.
The damage this time is nowhere near as bad as when the Turrells were hit by the record-breaking flood in January 2011 that savaged south-east Queensland.
