The announcement of the Queensland Polocrosse teams to compete at The Australian National Polocrosse Championships in Darwin during early July has left the Tansey Polocrosse Club riding high.
Of the 58 players, across 8 divisions, selected to represent Queensland, Tansey Club members make
up 37 per cent of the Queensland teams, a total of 21 players.
Of the remaining players selected, both Warwick and Wandoan clubs had six representatives with the
remaining players coming from Cunningham, Gold Coast, Roma, Tambo, Bauhinia, Calliope, Taroom and Lockyer Valley clubs.
Club president Justin Hafey, Tansey, said he was extremely proud of his club’s excellent representation and it was testament to their commitment and dedication that the club was so strongly represented.
This weekend, Tansey Polocrosse Club will get to showcase their home ground when they host their annual carnival.
Mr Hafey said that the Club suffered significant damage as a result of flooding caused by ex tropical cyclone Oswald early in 2013.
The club was very fortunate to have received relief funding through the QRAA and the NDRRA (through the division of Sport and Recreation), he said.
“This funding was put to good use in repairing damage to fields and infrastructure.”
Unfortunately, with the opposite type of climatic conditions now being experienced, the club faces
the challenge of preparing their grounds during an extended dry period.
Mr Hafey is nevertheless confident that this year’s carnival will be a success, and hopes to see a strong showing from players looking to hone their skills prior to embarking on the long trip to Darwin for the nationals.
Following on from its success last year, the carnival will include a dedicated ladies competition.
Mr Hafey said the ladies competition was put in place to give female players the opportunity to improve their skills and to promote camaraderie among women throughout the south east zone and further afield in Queensland.
The Saturday night entertainment will include a horse auction and novelty events.
