AN elated group of school children and their families from the Darling and western Downs had a ball in Brisbane last week, receiving three days of professional tennis coaching.
The children, ranging in age from seven to 16, received two days of coaching courtesy of an Arrow Energy grant, with the third donated by The Gap Health and Racquet Centre – the facility holding the sessions.
Noonga mother-of-four Polly Leahy said the trip was well worth the wait.
“In Noonga, all we really have is a town hall and courts,” she said.
“So all the kids play tennis and they wanted to do a bit more professional coaching, rather than just learn from mum and dad.
“But they don’t get to, because it costs too much to get a coach out there.”
Ms Leahy said the nine families stayed together at the Queensland Country Women’s Association’s Spring Hill apartments after president Robyn MacFarlane generously called in to co-fund the accommodation expenses.
“They have been absolutely amazing and have gone right out of their way to help us,” Ms Leahy said.
