RODEO will make a spectacular return to the Ekka with Queensland taking on NSW in five separate events on August 17.
Premier Campbell Newman said the Ekka Rodeo was part of the Queensland Government's 20-year plan for tourism, Destination Success, which outlines the need to deliver innovative events which drive visitation to Queensland's destinations.
"I loved seeing the sport while on a recent trade mission to Texas and it's great to be able to have this exhibition event in south east Queensland," Mr Newman said.
"The State of Origin theme is also an exciting concept and we fully expect Queensland to come out on top of NSW.
"We anticipate the event will bring even more people to the Ekka, helping to create jobs for families and boosting the economy.
"The Rodeo will be an exciting addition to the Ekka calendar this year, showcasing the best of regional Queensland in the city."
Some 30 competitors - 15 from Queensland and 15 from NSW - will take part in the 'State of Origin' exhibition rodeo that will involve bull riding, steer wrestling, and ladies barrel races.
Entry is free to Ekka ticket-holders with the event taking place in the 22,000 capacity main arena.
