WARWICK Lawrence who hails from Rosebrook in NSW, has been crowned the national campdrafting champion after winning the National Campdraft Council of Australia Challenge, hosted by the Warwick Rodeo and Campdraft this weekend.
The challenge saw the best five top open riders representing the four campdrafting associations; the Australian Campdraft Association, the Australian Bushman’s Campdraft and Rodeo Association, the Southern Campdrafting Association and the Gippsland Campdraft Association, battle it out over three finals.
Mr Lawrence qualified through the Australian Bushman's Campdraft and Rodeo Association and scored 266.5 points on Cedar Downs Minimax over three rounds to claim the ultimate title.
Mr Lawrence described the win as unbelievable.
"I was so lucky I had three good rounds and lucky to be the one in front," he said.
Mr Lawrence faced stiff competition from fellow NSW competitor Nigel Kable, Rydal, who scored 259 points on Chevin Mary Poppins while Troy Palmer, Coolah, NSW, was third on Impressive Destiny on 258.5 points.
In fourth and fifth place representing the Australian Campdraft Association were Queenslanders Ben Hall, Muttaburra, riding Grandee, on 255 points, while Clermont rider Mac Shann, riding Porter, wasn’t far behind on 254.5 points.
