AFTER almost four decades, Gordon Duncan has finally won an open prize shoot at Bundaberg.
He topped a strong field of competitors in the 2015 Bundaberg-Burnett Rifle Club championship which included four visitors from South Australia.
Gordon clinched the grand aggregate trophy on the last range at the weekend with every one of 15 shots at 900 yards needing to be a bull's-eye.
The possible score of 75 with six centre bulls in a tricky breeze saw Gordon run down habitual winner Gillian Webb-Enslin to snare the title.
He missed just two bulls in 70 shots over the two days to post an aggregate 348.34, edging out Australian representative Gillian who finished on 347.45.
Gordon was a long-term Bundaberg-Burnett member before moving to Ipswich eight years ago.
The Brisbane Central member, who regularly comes back to the annual Bundaberg shoot said he was unaware of the pressure situation he faced going into the last range - which was probably just as well.
His winning Sunday aggregate included another 15-shot possible at 800 yards for an impressive 150 with 15 centre bulls.
Gillian, a member of Pacific Rifle Club, will compete in the world championship in the US later this year.
She missed just one bull's-eye in winning the four-range aggregate on Saturday and a third placing on Sunday was enough to secure runner-up in the Grand Aggregate
Bob Skelton, a City of Brisbane member, had a fine tournament, placing second on Sunday and third in the grand aggregate.
William Pryde, one of the South Australian visitors, scored a double in B grade winning the day-one and grand aggregate titles. North Arm member Scott Robson took Day-two honours.
In C grade, Bundaberg local Chris Abbot was best on Saturday with fellow club member Josh Turner winning on Sunday and Dave Hatherell from Gympie-Kilkivan securing the two-day aggregate.
Dalby-Tara member Graham Sells won a double in F-standard scope class with the Saturday and two-day aggregates. Peter Casley from South Australia was best on Sunday.
In F-open competition, Craig McGowan from Brisbane shot a possible 180 to win on Sunday and also took the grand aggregate. Phil Dewhurst from Wallumbilla won the Saturday aggregate.
