TO be crowned the overall champion of champions at the Paradise Lagoons Campdraft held outside Rockhampton will be an unforgettable experience.
That is according to Capella district campdrafter Steve Comiskey who was sashed the 2015 Paradise Lagoons Campdraft champion of champions - after a run-off between the winners of the seven other events.
"It really was pretty awesome - it is the best result I've had since coming here," Steve said.
Apart from claiming the champion of champions aboard Hazelwood Conartist, owned by Warren Thompson from Comet, Mr Comiskey earlier claimed the Frasers Livestock Transport stallion draft and the Rural Supplements novice draft riding Katie.
Meanwhile winner of the Acton Super Beef Australian Open draft for the third time since inception was older brother Pete Comiskey, Nebo, riding Kitson to edge out his rivals by one point sitting on an overall tally of 266 points.
Sitting on 265 points was a three-way tie with Dan Condon, on Bracelet, Rohan Mark on Hingus and Troy Palmer on Impressive Destiny.
The late Graeme Acton's daughter's took time to reflect beside the bronze bust that was unveiled by Prime Minister, Tony Abbott during the Paradise Lagoons campdraft, from left Tory Acton, Mountain View, Rockhampton, Hayley Hutton, Iffley Station, Nebo, and Laura Dennis, Elgin Downs, Clermont. "It really is a great thrill to win one of the biggest open campdrafts in Australia, and go be up against the best there is," Pete said.
"The is really my favourite venue, and the difference is both the committee, and the Acton family make you so welcome.
"The complex is world class, and it is the one opportunity to catch up with the entire Australian campdrafting family."
The hotly contested Mort and Co open draft was won by Grafton competition Peter Connor, riding Takimpter Grouse, claim 267 points, and again Pete Comiskey was in second place on Paris.
A delighted Evan Acton enjoyed his
first win on his own turf when he claimed the JBS Australia Swift Premium Maiden Draft, riding Barkly Girl, a mare he owned in partnership with his late brother Graeme.
The Graeme Memorial restricted draft was won by the well travelled Jason Wanstall, from Collinsville, riding Diablo's Destino.
Claiming the Wilangi Brahmans ladies draft was Kimberley Sammon, of Beaudesert, riding Pussy Skills.
