PROUDLY carrying their division and branch banners, around 300 members of the Queensland Country Women’s Association (QCWA) paraded through the streets of Ipswich this morning to mark the first full day of the 92nd annual state conference, which runs until Friday.
Chairing her first state conference is QCWA president Robyn McFarlane.
Overseeing 20 divisions, with a total of 255 individual branches, Mrs McFarlane said the QCWA delegates enjoyed visiting different towns throughout the state each year.
“It is lovely that this year we can bring all the ladies to Ipswich and to be able to boost the economy of the towns that we do have our state conference in,” she said.
Driven by the conference theme of challenges, changes and opportunities, Mrs McFarlane said the main focus will be the resolutions formed that will be taken to the government for issues pertaining to members’ communities.
This morning kicked off with an ecumenical service at the Ipswich St Paul’s Anglican Church with the collection going to Ipswich Hospice.
The week’s proceedings will include a dinner this evening where the individual QCWA fundraiser of the year will be announced.
The conference is also host to the state finals for cookery, handcraft, piece making, floral art, photography, knitting and crochet competitions, with the respective winners announced over the course of the week.
