WAYNE and Kellie Dobe, Desalis Station, Gumlu, purchased the top priced heifer at the 2013 Rockhampton Brangus sale and returned in 2014 to do it twice.
Each purchase has been a purchase from the Pearce family’s Telpara Hills prefix and there is a reason for that.
“We really like the genetics that they’re bringing into the country,” Mr Dobe said.
“The US genetics have a depth of pedigree that appeals to us.
“Some of the females we’ve purchased have five or six generations of breeding.”
Mr and Mrs Dobe, who are the proud owners of the new CPR Brangus stud, paid $18,000 at this year’s sale for a 19-month-old, CB Hombre daughter then, repeated the purchase price for a 23-month-old, Csonka of Brinks 30R4 daughter two lots later.
Both females will join the stud’s donor program and in the not too distant future will be producing future CPR sires.
“We’re importing straws to cross with a focus on good bone and strong marbling,” he said.
Another northern producer, Paul Russell, Malanda, paid $13,000 for Telpara Hills Miss Onstar 11J2, a polled, AI, ET daughter of MC Onstar 924W4.
The 21-month-old was the first drop of her dam and sire to be offered in Australia and was offered with two straws from the TGG sire line up.
As a direct result of improved protocols for embryo export, two American buyers paid a premium for a pair of Telpara Hills’ females.
One of the last opportunities to purchase a Greendale U146 daughter saw Nic Cornelison, Lake Majestik Farms, Alabama, pay $12,000 for a 19-month-old female.
The first progeny of CB Final Cut to be sold in Australia was purchased by an American couple.
Joe and Catherine Kassler, The Oaks Brangus stud, Georgia, USA, paid $11,000 for the 12-month-old, Telpara Hills Miss Final Cut 145J9.
The heifers will be flushed in Australia and embryos exported to the new buyers.
Telpara Hills heifers sold from $18,000 to $6500 to average $11,875 for eight lots.
The Kapernick family, Gin Gin, sold a 23-month-old female to John and Sue Joyce, Dalkeith Downs, Gracemere, for $6000.
David and Christine Roberts and family sold Alkoomie Miss Conroe to the same buyer for $6000.
Mr and Mrs Joyce purchased four heifers in total to average $5187 including two Oaklands females for $5250 and $3500.
Oaklands stud principals, Neville and Megan Hansen, Kabra, were paid to a top of $5500 by John Byrne, Cooran.
David and Tracey Muscat, Brangaloo, Mackay, selected four heifers for the average price of $1437 including a 25-month-old, Yaraandoo female for $2500.
