A TOP price of $75,000 at the NCC Brahman sale on Tuesday, was a reassuring result for the Brahman industry and NCC stud principal Brett Nobbs.
Fresh off an impressive Brahman week sale in Rockhampton in early October, a total of 88 bulls sold to average $9227 with a 91 per cent clearance at auction.
In the analysis after the sale, 49 grey bulls averaged $9173 while 39 red lots averaged $9295.
The top priced bull, NCC Bohemian was purchased by Collinsville commercial producer, Gavin Scott and his son, Dillon, Rosetta Station.
The 20-month-old, 864kg, Bohemian had an eye muscle area of 146sq cm and an intra-muscular fat score of 4.1pc.
“I shouldn’t have been able to buy him,” Mr Scott said.
“Stud buyers should have been taking him home.”
Mind you, Mr Scott is thrilled with his purchase.
“I only have to get 20 calves from him and he’ll have paid for himself straight up.”
Mr Scott is a passionate advocate of the direction NCC stud is taking with a focus on meat and bone.
“A lot of studs are putting too much emphasis on genetics and not enough on the visual aspects of the bull," Mr Scott said.
“90pc of my selection is based on a visual assessment and I reckon there should be more of it.”
Regardless of the sentiment, the bull was sired by one of the most successful sires used in the NCC stud, JDH Mr Elmo Manso (IMP US) and out of Gipsy Plains Red Rhapsody 8516(P).
Mr Scott said the sire was the best bull he’d seen in 2014.
