THE Devon Court Hereford stud, of Drillham on Queensland’s western Downs has recorded its best sale result in 12 years, according to principal Tom Nixon.
The young studmaster described the feeling as “walking on air” after his draft of 32 bulls sold at an average of $5370 at yesterday’s Southern Cross Sale at the Pinora Sales Complex, Jackson.
Selling with noted Millmerran Hereford breeder Steve Reid, of Talbalba Stud, Mr Nixon’s 26-month-old Devon Court Advance H146 (H) topped the sale at $14,000, selling to the Holliss family, of Lotus Hereford Stud, Glen Innes, NSW.
Mr Reid’s Talbalbar Barmer (AI) (H), a 25-month-old Lismore son, was the sale’s second top price, selling for $13,000 to Pat Bredhauer, of Lambert Stud, Charleville.
Buckinbah Stud, St George, was the sale’s volume buyer, putting together a pen of six at an average of $6666. Jason and Anne Sprague, Neverfail, Blackall bought five bulls at an average of $5300. Campview Grazing, Taroom purchased four bulls at an average of $5250.
Combined, 65 bulls sold under the hammer representing a 76 per cent clearance, while a further nine lots were sold after the sale, according to the agent’s sale report.
