FORMER national sausage king winners Tim and Robyn Duggan have again come up trumps, claiming three independent butcher awards in the Capricornia Regional Sausage King competition at Keppel Bay Sailing Club at Yeppoon on Sunday.
Mr Duggan and wife Robyn, of Mundubbera Butchering Company, Mundubbera, walked away with two sausage king awards for their lamb and poultry variety sausages, and the burger king award for their lamb with fetta, olives and red onion burgers.
The company won the national sausage king title in 2007 with its pork sausages.
"It really feels good, as we won two awards at this level last year, and to take three this year is a great team effort from our staff, and my wife who comes up with a lot of our flavours," Mr Duggan said.
Overall, the independent butchers from the Capricornia region nominated 140 entries into seven judging categories that form part of national competition.
The categories of sausages judged were traditional Australian beef, pork and lamb, poultry, gourmet and continental. A burger competition was also held.
Other sausage king award winners were Craig Wigginton of Wiggo's Beef City Meats, Gracemere, for the traditional Australian pork sausage and Brendon and Melanie Wilson, Kin Kora Meats, Gladstone, for the traditional Australian beef.
Jason O'Loughlin, Fair Dinkum Meats, Springsure, won the continental sausage honour.
Dan Miller, Millers Gourmet Meats, Monto, took out the gourmet sausage award.
The Capricornia winners will compete with winners from the other six Queensland regions at the state final to determine the finest sausage and burger makers in Queensland. The finals will be held on Sunday, August 16, at the Food Pavilion, RNA Showgrounds, Bowen Hills.
The state winners will compete at the National Sausage King finals to be held in Brisbane in February next year.
