QUALITY EU accredited steers sold to a top of 198c a kilogram while oats finished steers sold to 197c/kg at the inaugural Clermont Beef Expo on Wednesday.
Selling agents Hoch and Wilkinson yarded 1000 head of quality cattle drawn from the Clermont district, comprising 450 prime cattle, with the balance feeder and store cattle, and was judged by noted JBS cattle buyer John Ilott.
Local Clermont beef producers Gordon and Sue Rickertt, Curr, Clermont presented the champion beast of the expo, while Ted Murphy, Tay Glen, Dysart, presented the champion pen of steers.
The champion pen of grass finished steers was presented by Andrew and Sonia Harvey, Kenlogan Droughtmasters, Clermont that sold to 196c.
The sale was strongly supported by processors, feedlot operators, and restockers.
At the conclusion of the sale, the trade show and rural debt forum drew a crowd of 200.
Local beef producer John Burnett, Bendemere, moderated the forum accompanied by a panel of industry delegates including rural bankers, accountants, lawyers, and a rural counselor.
The debate conducted in a hypothetical situation draw a lively response from the audience covering issues such as re-financing the family farm to succession planning.
