THE 25th annual Westpac Ag-Grow Field Days at Emerald may have got off to a somewhat chilly start for the Central Highlands, as the day warmed up so did the crowds that flocked to the annual event.
Some 450 traders were on-site presenting the latest in farming innovations and by the end of the second day some 15,000 patrons had walked through the gates.
So far patrons have witnessed many new agricultural releases, along with lifestyle products, and other relevant information relating to life on the land.
A highlight on the second day was the All-Breeds bull sale where 109 bulls sold to average $3151, representing 63 per cent clearance.
According to Westpac Ag-Grow organiser, Geoff Dein, at the close of the third day, he is expecting some 20,000 patrons will have attended.
“And while that number is down on our record attendance figures, it certainly reflects the state of our economy, but ‘be assured the farming community is here’," Mr Dein said.
Mr Dein says he has spoken to many members of the farming community visiting and quotes one farmer who really gave the true picture of what is happening in Central Queensland who told him – ‘we are really only one decent rainfall off a good time’.
Today is the final day of the event, and one of the draw cards on the program is the Performance Horse Sale.
Queensland Country Life will publish a full report in the July 17 edition.
