AN outback pub in remote Queensland isn’t the most likely of places to enjoy your Earl Grey.
But McKinlay’s iconic Walkabout Creek Hotel - famously known as the watering hole of Mick “Crocodile” Dundee - had smoko on tap for their Biggest Morning Tea fundraiser.
The pub is situated on popular tourist route, the Landsborough Highway.
Travellers took a pit-stop on the long stretch between Winton and Cloncurry to enjoy locals’ offerings of delicious cakes, biscuits and slices, as well as a warm beverage or two.
One of the organisers, local grazier Heather Moore, said the event raised $500.
Today, Thursday, May 28, is the official Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea date.
The Cancer Council is hoping 5600 hosts will raise their cups this year, noting morning teas can be held any time throughout May or June.
Around 25,000 Queenslanders will be diagnosed with cancer this year and about 8000 will die from the disease.
“Together we can beat cancer,” said Cancer Council Queensland spokesperson Katie Clift.
“Nationally, Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is enjoyed by more than a million people each year and collectively, over two decades of tea partying, the event has raised around $121 million for the fight against cancer.”
