THE countdown is well and truly on for Beef 2015 and today a large version of the Australian flag was presented to fly over the grand entrance of the event at the Rockhampton Showgrounds.
Federal Member for Capricornia Michelle Landry handed the larger-than-usual flag to Beef Australia 2015 chief executive Denis Cox this afternoon and it will fly from May 4-9.
She said this year’s event would inject tens of millions of dollars into the local Rockhampton and Capricorn Coast economy boosting the retail, food and hospitality, transport and accommodation sectors.
“Last time we hosted Beef Australia three years ago it provided a $31 million direct benefit to our local economy,” Ms Landry said.
“This year the city and coastal economy could benefit from an immediate $40 million cash injection generated by visitors and exhibitors.
“But the final spin off could be as high as $100 million or more for the wider economy depending on post-Beef Week business deals and sales of cattle, meat, semen, technology and other Australian beef products that could be sold for export."
